FAQ's

At Versatape we want to make it as easy as possible for you to find the information you're looking for. Below are a list of our most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) and their answers.

  • 1. Who are the MCLE approved providers for these audio programs?

MCLE approved audio programs of MCLE seminars are offered by multiple MCLE Approved Providers including:

San Fernando Valley Bar Association (California MCLE Approved Provider #451)

Southern California Mediation Association (California MCLE Approved Provider #9926)

Versatape records, produces and markets these programs for the approved providers.

  • 2. What's the difference between "Self-Study" and "Participatory" study options?
  • Self-study hours are logged by the listener and the one page list is kept in an MCLE compliance folder. The log requires  a listing of each program title, the program’s approved MCLE provider name, program length, and whether or not that program contains mandatory subfield credit (legal ethics, elimination of bias, or prevention of substance abuse.) This log does not have to be returned to Versatape.
  • Participatory hours require a proctor (any adult who is not simultaneously using the same program for participatory credit) to complete and sign documents accompanying each participatory program. The proctor does not need to sit there with the listener.  The completed and signed participatory documents are subsequently returned to Versatape and individual certificates of compliance are prepared and returned to the listener to be filed in a MCLE compliance folder. Versatape will also keep a copy of the certificates of compliance on file. If audited the State Bar will be looking for a copy of those completed certificates of compliance and a copy of the self -study hours log.
  • Note: Please note MCLE audio program hours listened to in excess of 25 hours in a 3-year compliance period cannot be carried over into the next 3-year cycle.
  • 3. What does a self-study/participatory log look like?

You can click to download a Self-Study Log or Sample Participatory Log here.

  • 4. What is the primary difference between CD's and MP3's?

For both formats the audio quality is the same. If you purchase CDs, you will be charged tax and shipping and a physical CD will be mailed to you. If you purchase an MP3 you will be able to immediately download the MP3 file(s) you purchased and add them to your iTunes, Windows Media Player, Smart Phone or other audio device. Or you can now order MP3 electronic audio files shipped to you on a convenient flash drive. A note on audio program quality. We strive for excellent audio quality.  Sometimes, in the enthusiasm of interaction, audience microphones are not used and questions not always repeated by the speaker. We apologize for any inconvenience.

  • 5. What are the main MCLE requirements for California?
