On January 1, 2023 Assembly Bill 2245 known as the Partition of Real Property Act (PRPA) goes into effect. This new law modifies the default legal procedures for the partition of real property co-owned by multiple parties, regardless of how the property was acquired. This comes after California’s Uniform Partition of Heirs Property (UPHPA) went into effect on January 1, 2022.
This session will go over the history, reasoning and result of these changes in partition law for California co-owners. These changes are critical to know for estate planning, real estate and other attorneys who practice in areas associated with real property. Attorney Jennifer Felten leads the discussion.
